Cancer And Stress
Probably malnutrition invariably precedes all malignancies; hence large nutritional debts have already been incurred. The shock and terror resulting from a diagnosis of cancer, worry over family and perhaps financial problems, and treatments such as radiation and/or surgery, all add stresses of enormous magnitude. The body requirements are, therefore, so tremendously high that it may be impossible to meet them.
The six small daily meals should be high in adequate protein, low in calories, moderate in fat, and supply generous amounts of all anti-stress factors and all nutrients that appear to inhibit malignant growth. Particularly in Hodgkin's disease, or cancer of the lymph glands, the anti-stress formula should be taken around the clock indefinitely.
Nutrition And Cancer Prevention
Hospital records of Seventh-day Adventists, who avoid highly refined foods, show that they suffer far less from cancer than the same number of persons whose diets are more inadequate.lio Similar reports have come from other peoples living on natural foods: the Latter-day Saints, the Navajo Indians, and many formerly isolated groups throughout the world. When doctors with the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research injected living cancer cells into the forearms of volunteers with advanced incurable cancer, the implantations grew and later had to be removed. In some of these patients, these cancers returned and were excised again, though normal cells, similarly injected under the skin of volunteers with growing cancers, did not multiply. Before injected cancer cells would develop in experimental animals, their bodies first had to be depleted by a combination of x-ray and cortisone. Cancer implants in healthy volunteers of different ages from the Ohio Penitentiary caused prompt inflammation, but the injected cells quickly degenerated and disappeared. These men produced antibodies, the complement, and other defenses which cancer patients were unable to form. Such studies indicate that anyone who keeps his resistance consistently high can be relatively sure of not contracting cancer.
Most cancer could probably be prevented if the nutritional knowledge now available were applied; and active cancer might be inhibited in some cases were a highly adequate diet adhered to. Dr. Roger J. Williams, of the University of Texas, has pointed out that there is extreme difference in the incidence of cancer in various strains and even families of animals; and that some animals are susceptible because they have unusually high hereditary requirements for certain nutrients. These facts may be equally true of humans. In referring to cancer patients, Dr. Williams states, "There has never been a serious attempt to provide all nutritional requirements in quantities adequate to meet genetrophic needs that may be several times above those considered normal."
Unfortunately, our national diet becomes progressively worse each year; and the number of cancer-producing substances in our foods and environment steadily increases. It seems to me, therefore, that every form of malignancy can be expected to become more numerous, though the incidence of this disease in the United States is now greater than in any nation throughout all history.
Nutrition be tried as a "home remedy" instead of seeking a physician's help. Consult a doctor immediately. After a diagnosis has been made, the best nutrition possible in conjunction with the best medical help available may save your life.
